Welcome to Esperansa Counselling and Psychotherapy Services

At Esperansa Counselling and Psychotherapy Services in Swansea, I offer a safe and compassionate space for those seeking support with depression, anxiety, stress, childhood trauma, bereavement, self-esteem issues, and many other mental health challenges.

My philosophy is rooted in truly listening to you, seeing you in your wholeness, and supporting you to reconnect with your inner self through personal development, self-acceptance, and the power of hope.

I believe that many mental health issues are deeply connected to disconnection — from self, body, and life. In my work, I help you move from merely existing to truly living, guiding you to integrate the scarred parts of yourself and cultivate resilience, self-compassion, and authenticity.

As a professional Humanistic Therapist, I work within a dialogical, relational depth approach — meaning that healing happens through genuine human connection, presence, and attunement. Together, we explore your emotions, your embodied experiences, and what is happening in the here and now. This phenomenological focus allows us to uncover and transform patterns that keep you feeling stuck or disconnected.

I offer a wide range of therapies tailored to each individual, including Person-Centred Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Existential Therapy, Integrative Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Group Therapy, and Couple Counselling. These approaches can support you in processing trauma, alleviating anxiety and depression, working through grief and loss, and strengthening your sense of self-worth and life direction.

In addition to individual and couple counselling, I also deliver corporate workshops on mental health, resilience, mindful leadership, and stress management. I have worked with organizations such as Amazon and Beacon Cymru in Swansea, supporting teams to develop emotional intelligence and strengthen their capacity to respond to stress with presence and clarity.

Furthermore, I offer clinical supervision to Master’s level psychotherapy students and qualified psychotherapists. My supervision work is rooted in the same relational, embodied, and mindful approach, supporting therapists to grow in confidence, self-awareness, and professional integrity.

Although I am based in Swansea, I also welcome clients from across South Wales, including Neath Port Talbot, Llanelli, Carmarthen, and Bridgend. Sessions are available face-to-face, online, and by telephone.

I understand how daunting it can feel to contact a professional for the first time, especially if you have never experienced therapy before. I am always happy to answer any questions by email, telephone, or text. You can also leave a message or send a text if that feels easier, and I will call you back.

Take the first step towards reconnecting with yourself and building a life that feels authentic and whole. I look forward to meeting you.

Types of Therapy

What type of therapy services are there?

There are many types of therapy that help to self-heal your mind, being a professional Humanistic Therapist I first listen to our client and then provide the necessary therapy.

This could include Person Centred Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Existential Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Integrative Therapy, Group Therapy & Couple Counselling.

Person Centered Therapy

What is Person Centred Relational Therapy?

An important part of this theory is that in a particular psychological environment, the fulfilment of personal potential includes sociability, the need to be with other human beings and a desire to know and be known by other people.

It also includes being open to experience, being trusting and trustworthy, being curious about the world, being creative and compassionate.

My name is Janaina Mahe and I thank you for taking the time to read the information on my website. Firstly, I would like you to know that the reason I have chosen counselling as a profession is because I am passionate about helping people help themselves, to make the best of their time by living a more fulfilled and meaningful life.

I am a bilingual Portuguese & English fully qualified professional Humanistic Counsellor, with a Level 7 Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Practice which was awarded with Merit. I am a director of a counselling service company called ESPERANSA, which means HOPE in Portuguese; as I originally come from Brazil.

In reality, I am a truly person-centred counsellor who believes people are self healers and my job is to provide an efficacious therapeutic work, in which my clients may channel their own inner resources – therefore enabling them to live a more fulfilled and meaningful life. In this light, I do base my practice within a strong connection between my clients and me, but bonded by the framework of the therapeutic relationship.

Firstly, I do meet my clients where they are – as a human being and not just as a professional counsellor training in Humanistic approaches.

Secondly, I believe 100% in my clients’ inner resources to self healing and I am to work together to the best of my abilities to achieve their therapeutic change. However, I work from the principle that my clients must take responsibility for their own lives, even though we embark on their therapeutic journey together.

Thirdly, I believe in myself, in the fact I am able to emotionally contact my clients, providing a safe, non-judgemental environment and ethical service. I maintain and uphold the values and principles of the BACP, by honouring the trust placed in me and being totally committed to my clients well-being.
