Welcome to Esperansa Counselling and Psychotherapy Services

At Esperansa Counselling and Psychotherapy Services in Swansea, I offer a safe, compassionate space for those seeking support with depression, anxiety, stress, childhood trauma, bereavement, self-esteem concerns, and the many emotional challenges that shape our lives. My philosophy is rooted in listening deeply, seeing you as a whole human being, and supporting you to reconnect with yourself through presence, emotional clarity, and authentic self-acceptance.

I work with emotions as embodied experiences that live in the nervous system. When emotional states are allowed, felt, and supported, they begin to reorganise naturally. Many struggles arise not because emotions are too strong, but because they have been carried alone. My approach helps you reconnect with yourself in the present moment, restoring coherence between mind and body.

Over the years, through my clinical work, personal journey, and ongoing study, I developed the Innate Entitlement Framework™ — a practice-informed model that weaves together embodiment, boundaries, presence, and nervous system awareness. If you are curious to explore these ideas further, you can read more about the framework HERE

I believe that many mental health difficulties are rooted in disconnection—from the self, from the body, and from life. Therapy is where this disconnection can be gently repaired. I help clients move from surviving to truly living, integrating wounded parts of the self and developing resilience, compassion, and authenticity. As a Humanistic Therapist, I work within a dialogical, relational depth approach. Healing grows through presence, attunement, and genuine human connection. Together, we explore what is happening within you in the here and now, making space for clarity, healing, and meaning.

I integrate a wide range of therapeutic models—Person-Centred Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Existential Therapy, Integrative Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Group Therapy, and Couple Counselling—depending on your unique needs. I also deliver corporate workshops to organisations such as Amazon and Beacon Cymru, focusing on stress management, emotional resilience, and mindful leadership. In addition, I offer clinical supervision to Master’s level students and qualified therapists.

Sessions are available in Swansea, across South Wales, and online. If you are considering therapy, please know that it’s completely normal to feel uncertain at first. You are welcome to contact me with any questions by email, phone, or text. I also offer a free 20-minute introductory session to help us decide whether we feel we can work well together. I look forward to supporting you as you reconnect with yourself and build a life that feels more grounded, authentic, and whole.

Person Centered Therapy

What is Person Centred Relational Therapy?

An important part of this theory is that in a particular psychological environment, the fulfilment of personal potential includes sociability, the need to be with other human beings and a desire to know and be known by other people.

My name is Janaina Mahé, and I thank you for taking the time to visit my website. The reason I chose counselling as a profession is simple: I am passionate about helping people help themselves — to reclaim their inner resources, reconnect with their true self, and live a more fulfilled and meaningful life.I am a bilingual Portuguese & English Humanistic Counsellor with a Level 7 Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Practice (Merit). I am also the director of Esperansa Counselling and Psychotherapy Services — “Esperansa” meaning hope in Portuguese, which reflects both my heritage and the heart of my work.

At my core, I am a deeply Person-Centred therapist who believes wholeheartedly that people are natural self-healers. My role is to provide an effective, attuned, and ethically grounded therapeutic relationship where your own inner wisdom can re-emerge. I meet you first as a human being — not just as a professional — and I build the work on genuine contact, emotional presence, and relational depth.

My approach is guided by three core principles:

1. I meet you where you are.
As a Humanistic practitioner, I work relationally and phenomenologically. I listen first, respond to your lived experience, and attune to what is happening for you in the here and now.

2. I trust your innate capacity to heal.
I believe fully in your inner resources and in your ability to grow, with support. Our work is a collaboration, and while I walk alongside you, you remain the author of your own life.

3. I hold a safe, ethical, and grounded therapeutic space.

I commit to emotional contact, non-judgement, and professional integrity. I uphold the BACP values by honouring the trust placed in me and placing your well-being at the centre of our work.Over the years, through deep clinical experience and reflective practice, I have developed my own therapeutic model — the Innate Entitlement Framework™. This framework has emerged naturally from my Humanistic foundations and integrates embodiment, emotional depth, boundaries, nervous system science, and presence-based work. You can explore this model in more depth on the Innate Entitlement Framework™ page HERE
